Dallas Police Department operates a Flock Safety automated license-plate-reader network funded through a mix of city money and grants. State funding was paused under a directive from Gov. Dallas ISD’s Automotive Technician Program of Study is partnering with Dallas Area Rapid Transit on a High School Student Bus Maintenance Externship Program. The semester-long initiative gives participating seniors supervised exposure to transit-vehicle maintenance and is intended to connect career-and-technical education with demand for diesel mechanics. Dallas ISD says the program is its first of its kind connecting students in the program of study with bus-maintenance professionals.
Texas House leaders directed the House Committee on State Affairs to study protections for minors on online gaming platforms after concerns about harmful user-generated content and communications with adult strangers. The committee held a hearing in Austin on September 15 focused on platform safeguards, including parental controls, content labels, chat filters, and age verification. The hearing occurred amid broader law-enforcement warnings that offenders and violent online networks can contact and coerce minors through gaming and social platforms.
The Wentwood Fields West is a Class A apartment community within Fields West, a mixed-use component of the larger 2,545-acre Fields master-planned development in north Frisco. Columbus Realty Partners developed the apartments, while Karahan Cos. is the Fields West master developer. The community is now leasing, but its first phase is not expected to be move-in ready until January 2027, with later phases planned through 2028.
Haggard Farms is a planned 142-acre mixed-use development at Spring Creek Parkway and Parkwood Boulevard in Plano. Its projected full build-out includes retail, apartments, townhomes, a boutique hotel and office space, with an estimated value of $750 million. Developers held a groundbreaking in late 2025, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The Commit Partnership’s 2026 Dallas County Economic Mobility Report tracks education-to-workforce indicators for the county, including academic performance, postsecondary progress, poverty and living-wage attainment. Its Opportunity 2040 initiative, launched in 2022 with the Child Poverty Action Lab, aims to put 150,000 additional students on a path to economic mobility and halve child poverty by 2040. The report finds broad academic improvement but identifies postsecondary enrollment and credential completion as major bottlenecks to economic mobility.
Azzi Fudd, the Dallas Wings’ No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA draft, was ruled out for the remainder of her rookie season because of persistent right-knee soreness. She underwent an arthroscopic procedure and is rehabilitating while Dallas has secured a WNBA playoff berth without her. Fudd’s injury history includes prior significant injuries to the same knee during her high-school and college career.
