Bexar County Commissioners Court unanimously reinstated a burn ban for unincorporated county areas on Sept. 15, 2026, citing worsening drought and elevated brush-fire risk. The 90-day order takes effect immediately and is scheduled to run through Dec. 14 unless county officials determine the public-safety hazard has passed sooner.

What San Antonio is talking about
Bexar County adopted its fiscal year 2026-27 budget amid declining taxable property values and the pending expiration of federal American Rescue Plan Act funding. The $2.6 billion plan is about $200 million below the current budget and relies in part on reserves while preserving the existing property-tax rate. Commissioners said the action does not eliminate projected longer-term financial pressures, which may require further savings or revenue decisions.
North East Independent School District is weighing campus closures as it addresses a projected budget deficit and underused elementary-school space. The district had forecast a nearly $20 million shortfall in April and adopted open enrollment as part of a broader enrollment and efficiency strategy. It had already closed Driscoll Middle School, Wilshire Elementary and Clear Spring Elementary at the start of the 2025-26 school year.
Bandera County Precinct 2 authorities executed search-and-seizure warrants at We Care Wildlife Sanctuary in Lakehills on September 4 after receiving photographs of severely underweight horses. More than 100 surviving animals were removed for evaluation and care, while authorities reported finding over 20 dead animals in varying stages of decomposition. A September 14-15 court hearing presented testimony from animal-welfare and veterinary witnesses; the underlying investigation remains ongoing.
Guns N' Roses is scheduled to bring its 2026 World Tour to the Alamodome in San Antonio on September 16, 2026. The venue lists a 6:25 p.m. event time and directs attendees to ticketing, parking, security and clear-bag-policy information. San Antonio Current reports that Pierce the Veil is slated to open the show.
A San Antonio family reported that air conditioning in its apartment at the Four Thousand Horizon Hill complex on the Northwest Side was not working properly following an Aug. 28 storm. KSAT documented temperatures around 90 degrees in a child’s bedroom on Sept. 10, when the city issued the property’s management a notice of violation. The family was subsequently moved to another unit with functioning air conditioning, while management said further repairs were being made to the original unit.
The Durango Apartments is a planned luxury residential tower at 427 S. Presa St. near Southtown, Hemisfair and the River Walk in San Antonio. Developer Tim Proctor of Lane Development first proposed a 12-story project roughly a decade ago; historic-design review feedback led to progressively taller, slimmer concepts. The Historic and Design Review Commission recently approved a certificate of appropriateness for a 17-story, 195-foot version with façade and masonry changes. The developer is also seeking an extension of city incentive-agreement deadlines while the city reviews that request.
